A Dingwall man who attacked his partner during a drunken row has been ordered to pay her compensation.

Archie Ritchie (30) kicked off at his partner while they were dishing out a takeaway on October 3 last year.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard the pair had been drinking at a property in Conon Bridge's Sellar Place and had ordered food which had arrived around 10pm.

However while plating up, Ritchie started bringing up his partner's former relationships.

The court heard this quickly escalated with him calling her names and shouting and swearing.

Fiscal depute Karen Poke said he then became verbally abusive making slurs towards the woman.

“He then punched her in the eye.”

As a result she fell over, the prosecutor said.

She was then dragged back up by Ritchie by her hair.

The court was told the woman later attended hospital and required six stitches to her forehead.

Defence agent David Patterson said: “Alcohol had been consumed. Quite a vast quantity by both parties.

“He accepts that the relationship was toxic.

“They have not been in contact.”

Sheriff Robert Frazer said the assault, which was aggravated by being of a domestic nature, was “a very serious offence indeed”.

He imposed a community payback order with a two year supervision element and 200 hours of unpaid work.

Ritchie, of Simpson Place, Dingwall, is also required to take part in the Caledonian programme for domestic abusers.

He will also have to give £800 compensation to the woman he assaulted.
