Highland athlete named in Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad for World Athletics Championship in Budapest

HIGHLAND athlete Megan Keith has been named in the Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad for the World Athletics Championship.

The 21-year-old has been officially selected to compete in the 5000 metres at the World Championships in Budapest next month.

Keith will compete in the heats which take place on Wednesday, August 23 at 11.10am CET.

If she qualifies, she will compete in the 5000 metres final which takes place on Saturday, August 26 at 8.50pm CET.

Keith put herself into contention for world championship selection when she ran under the qualifying time which she finished the distance in 14 minutes and 56.98 seconds at the Diamond League on Sunday.

It is the first time Keith has qualified for the World Athletics Championship, but she at the World Cross Country Championships in February.

In June, Keith also became European Under-23 5000 metres champion when she claimed gold at Espoo in Finland.

Keith will be one of two British athletes competing in the 5000 metres at the World Championships along with Amy-Eloise Markovc from Wakefield.
