MORE than 40 members of the public took the opportunity to get a closer look at the Port of Cromarty Firth’s ambitious £30m expansion plans.

The public information event in the port offices in Invergordon on Wednesday afternoon also allowed visitors to ask questions about the scheme. The port says the expansion is needed to maximise opportunities in the renewable energy sector and the cruise ship trade.

Port marketing manager, Joanne Allday, said the response to the plans had been very encouraging.

“We wanted to let people know what was happening,” she said.

“It was lovely to see so many people attending and taking an interest. There were lots of questions about how the project would progress, but people were very positive about it. They can see the benefits it can bring.”

Work has already begun on the quayside construction and is expected to run until March next year.

The additional space will be used to assemble turbines for the Moray East Offshore Windfarm, but will also allow Invergordon, which is already Scotland’s busiest cruise port, to accommodate the largest cruise ships currently being designed and built.

This is the second quayside expansion at Invergordon in three years.
