AN “inspirational” woman was toasted by family and friends on her 100th birthday.

Ann Milne, who continues to live independently in Ullapool, was also visited by Ross and Cromarty’s Lord Lieutenant Joanie Whiteford, who delivered a card from the Queen.

Mrs Whiteford said: “She is as bright as a button and talked about the war and how she met her husband. Her daughter, Jennifer had come over from Aberdeenshire and had made her a This is Your Life book, full of lovely memories.”

Heather, her daughter-in-law, lives in Ullapool.

Ann was born on October 25, 1921. She was the eldest of three children.

Her early years were spent in the fishing village of Pennan. She became a nurse during the war in Dundee and then took up a post in the children’s hospital in Aberdeen.

She made all her own clothes during the war and was a great dressmaker and still alters her clothes to this day.

She kept the books for her husband David’s garage in Oldmeldrum before the couple retired to Ullapool in the mid-70s. Her husband was a very keen fisherman.

Ann loves gardening and sewing and her memory is excellent.

Mrs Whiteford hailed “an inspirational lady”, adding: "Many congratulations!"
