A BLACK ISLE care service has received glowing results in its latest inspection.

The Care Inspectorate rated Avoch Primary Early Learning and Child Care as being “very good” in quality of care and support and quality of staffing.

The service, which provides a day care service to up to 44 pre-school and primary-aged children, was also praised for its engaging and proactive approach with kids.

The Care Inspectorate reported: “Children were seen to be in a calm and nurturing environment.

"Since the previous inspection, staff had improved the settling in procedures to be more responsive to parental feedback. Parents told us that they were happy with the settling in process and felt included with the nursery’s new approach. Staff worked well to support children’s individual interests and ensured all children had the choice to play outdoors.”

Inspectors found that the approach encouraged children’s creativity and confidence and also praised the proactive and engaged staff.

Some areas of improvements were identified, with the need to provide access to outdoors activities every day, as well as reviewing its children’s planning to reflect their current practice.

Parents left positive comments on the nursery: “The nursery has been amazing with [my child]. Supporting them and me when they started nursery. I can only say positive things about the nursery. I feel very lucky [that my child] is in such a lovely environment.”

“Staff are very approachable. My child talks about the teachers all the time, especially Mrs Carmichael. They settled in really well and seems to be really loving it.”

Others felt happy overall but suggested some points: “Personally, I feel there could be more information provided before children start.”

In the latest unannounced inspection in November 2016, the service was rated “very good” in care and support and a “good” in environment.
