AN independent candidate has thrown her hat in the ring to represent the Black Isle on Highland Council.

The election will take place on May 5.

Sarah Atkin said: "I have lived on the Black Isle for over 20 years. I work in education and previously enjoyed a career in business and politics/public policy.

"I have served my community as chairperson of Fortrose and Rosemarkie Community Council; on the Avoch Primary parent council and am currently a trustee of Rosemarkie and Fortrose Trust.

"When leading the community council, key achievements included securing planning permission for a care home in Fortrose and making progress (pre-Covid) in addressing the serious traffic congestion issues at Chanonry Point. This included the introduction of a

seasonal shuttle bus.

"I also supported the setting up of Rosemarkie and Fortrose Trust to save the local toilets

from closure and serve as a trustee."
