THE invitation to “peek in on the neighbours” was again too good to resist in Cromarty on Sunday as locals threw open their homes for a series of quirky performances featuring a variety of talent.

The Gluren bij de Buren event, inspired by a Dutch tradition, has gone from strength to strength and had up to 50 people squeeze into some homes while the local library and Courthouse Museum also played host to performers ranging from singer-songwriters to comedians.

And organiser Jon Palmer, who said he had received excellent feedback from this year’s event, is already planning next year’s with a call to new performers keen to get involved to make contact.

He said: "The afternoon was a great success, again, with audiences coming from far and wide. It's always difficult to calculate total numbers as they're dispersed in different venues throughout the event but one house had over 50 at one performance! Most averaged around 20. Many commented on the high quality and range of skills on display and the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. And the weather was calm and dry which made for a pleasant stroll going from house to house.

"One couple commented via e-mail: 'Absolutely loved it yesterday! So sorry to have missed the previous six years. Hope to catch up with next year's! More power to your elbow with this great concept'. We're always keen to hear from new performers so if anyone wants to give it ago next year they can contact us through the website."
