A Highland charity and businesses are partnering up to celebrate the importance of friendship.

Loch Ness by Jacobite and An Talla have joined forces with Befrienders Highland and pledged their support for the whole of 2023 to help raise awareness and celebrate the charity reaching its 30th anniversary.

Befrienders Highland has been supporting people across the region who are isolated and lonely because of mental health challenges, memory loss or their caring role for nearly 30 years with their befriending services.

In April 2023, the charity turns 30 years old and to mark this milestone Befrienders Highland and Jacobite have some great projects and events planned to raise awareness and crucial funds.

People can already celebrate a friendship dear to them by donating at a giving tree at café and retail destination An Talla in Dochgarroch.

Befrienders Highland executive director Susan White said: “The demand for our services have significantly risen since Covid, and the need for befriending volunteers and funding is now more important than ever. We are extremely delighted and grateful to have the team at Jacobite and An Talla on board to help us spread the word about what we do.

“We are trying to raise £30,000 for our 30th birthday, this can help us fund another 30 volunteers and in turn create and support 30 new friendships.”

Kelly Bruce, marketing manager at Loch Ness by Jacobite and An Talla, said: “Every year, Loch Ness by Jacobite and An Talla work alongside a local charity to raise not only crucial funds but awareness. We are delighted to be working with Befrienders Highland.

“Befrienders have a desire to make a difference – they have a want to make the world a better place and work tirelessly to improve the lives of people who are experiencing mental ill health, carers and those living with dementia. The work they do is invaluable to the community.

“We never know when we will have to rely on the kindness of others, therefore it is imperative that charities like Befrienders Highland stay afloat. We are honoured to be working alongside Befrienders Highland, seeing them into their 30th year, and we cannot wait to help make a difference for 2023.”

Alongside the giving tree, Befrienders Highland has launched a £30,000 Your Way Campaign where people can pledge to do a 30-day project or challenge to help raise funds towards the £30,000 target.
