A man has been jailed after being aggressive when confronted by staff at a Tesco supermarket in Dingwall.

Cornelius Stevenson (36) appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court from custody via video-link.

Fiscal depute Emma MacEwan said the threatening and abusive behaviour took place around 9pm in the store on Mart Road.

The court heard staff had reason to question him about goods in his bag after security alarms went off as he left the building.

This caused him to become aggressive, Miss MacEwan said.

He told staff to "get the f*****g police" and said to one person "I'm going to burst you" and "I'm going to bomb your houses".

The prosecutor went on to say Stevenson, of the town's Fingal Road, then got "into their personal space".

Sheriff Gary Aitken imposed a fine of £1000.

He was given no time to pay and the alternative of 28 days in jail was put in place.
