A LOVING husband who lost his wife to skin cancer will stage a fundraiser in her memory on what would have been their fifth wedding anniversary.

David Anderson (38), from Pipersfield in Alness, was widowed when 43-year-old Caroline lost an 18 month battle against melanoma on November 19 last year.

The former Blythswood charity shop worker left behind her adoring family and friends but showed incredible courage in the way she fought the disease.

Her bright smile and keen sense of humour never faltered throughout treatment.

With the Covid-19 pandemic altering initial plans for a collective fundraiser, the touching tribute has now been thrown open to anyone keen to help raise funds for Highland Hospice, where Mrs Anderson spent her final days.

Mr Anderson, who gave up his IT job at Capgemini to care for his wife, is asking as many people as possible to move five kilometres and give £5 or more on his fundraising page https://give.everydayhero.com/uk/caroline-s-day

He said: “Obviously, with the current situation, people aren’t able to get together, so I’ve just thrown it open for anyone who is able and willing to move five kilometres whether it is running, jumping, walking, cycling or whatever.

“Anyone can do it, really. “It’s not just family and friends, everyone is invited and everyone can donate.”

Mr Anderson, who is currently unemployed, is aware that a great many local people knew and loved Caroline, who lived at Milnafua before they married, while also working previously at Asda supermarket in Tain.

He said: “She was diagnosed in July 2018 and fought the illness for about 18 months. She was incredible, really.

“She was always very clear to everybody that although it was going to kill her, it wasn’t going to destroy who she was.

“She was very bubbly and full of humour and that never changed. She was a real character and everyone knew her and loved her.

“I couldn’t have done what she did. She was an inspiration.”

The couple’s fifth wedding anniversary would have fallen on June 20.

Mr Anderson would like everyone taking part to share photos of their 5k venture with the hashtag #CarolinesDay

To date, he has raised over £200 of his £1500 target.
