Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick has praised the work of Crocus Group in supporting children and young people living with the grief of having lost a loved one.

The SNP politician marked the fourth anniversary of the start of their work at Highland Hospice in Inverness with a parliamentary motion at the Scottish Parliament.

Ms Roddick said: “I could not possibly overstate the importance of the work done by Crocus Group to support bereaved children and young people.

“As someone with experience of bereavement in childhood, I know how important it is for children who have suffered the death of a loved one to be suitably supported.

“How important it is to restore their self-esteem and help them understand the grief they are going through. Crocus Group have been doing this for four years now and I hope to see them continue to work on this for many more.”

The motion stated: “That the Parliament celebrates four years of the Crocus Group providing services at Highland Hospice in Inverness; understands that they are celebrating this milestone by planting a field of crocuses to raise money to help to improve services, and commends the Crocus Group for the work they do in providing what it sees as vital bereavement services to young people in the Highlands."
