Hundreds of people in and around the Plockton area could be without electricity for several hours after a power cut.

The area affected includes Plockton, the local airstrip, Duncraig Castle, Duirinish and Drumbuie.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) was made aware of the fault shortly before 4.10pm, and is advising that is could take almost six hours for all properties to have their power restored.

"We're very sorry for the power cut and are aware of a fault on our main network affecting 371 homes," said a spokesperson for SSEN.

"The cause of this power cut is a fault on our underground network. This is the most common type of fault we see and our teams are very experienced in dealing with these issues.

"In most cases, our engineers are able to restore power by simply replacing a fuse at the local substation, however, if the fault is severe, this may result in us needing to make full repairs which can take longer."

At the time of writing SSEN's Powertrack website was advising customers that it expected to restore power by 10pm.
