Aldi joined up with local charities, community groups and food banks to donate surplus food for the meals.

Recent work by Neighbourly, a group helping businesses to make a positive impact in their local communities, suggested a rise of about 28 per cent in demand for food bank services across the region so far this year.

Liz Fox, corporate responsibility director at Aldi UK, said: “The school holidays can be a busy time for the local charities and organisations we support.

“We’re proud to support so many good causes in the Highlands, helping them to provide meals to those in need over the recent school holidays.”

Steve Butterworth, from Neighbourly, added: “During what is a hard time for everyone, anything people can do to give back in the coming weeks will make all the difference.”
