Hundreds of people living in and near Alness were without electricity this morning following a power cut.

The outage occurred around 7.30am and affected more than 600 homes and businesses in western parts of Alness and north to Newbridge and Achandunie.

"We're very sorry for the power cut and are aware of a fault on our main network," said a spokesperson for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN). "This is affecting a large area and it's likely several streets in your area are affected.

"The cause of this power cut is a fault on our underground network."

At the time of writing, engineers were understood to be on site. SSEN had a tentative power restoration time of 11am, although this could change depending on how well repairs progress.
