HUMAN remains have been discovered during property renovation work in Ross-shire.

A member of the public has contacted police after finding what they believed to be a human skull within a building on the Applecross Estate in Wester Ross.

The skull was found during renovation work and reported to Police Scotland on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the find is believed to be historic. "It is likely to have been there for a number of years and there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances," said a police spokesman.
