HOTELIERS say they will be unable to welcome guests from Aberdeen where lockdown restrictions have been reimposed due to a coronavirus cluster.

Members of the Inverness Hotels Association reacted swiftly following the renewed lockdown announcement by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and will be contacting people from the city who have made bookings in the Highland capital.

Emmanuel Moine, the association chairman and manager of Glen Mhor Hotel, said it was important to reassure visitors from other areas that it was safe to visit the Highland capital.

"We feel a solidarity and sympathy for people in Aberdeen," Mr Moine said.

"But it is important that the reputation of Inverness as a safe place is retained.

"We understand our guests are worried.

"We want to send a message we are trying to keep Inverness as safe and secure as possible."

Mr Moine said that Glen Mhor Hotel has future bookings from people in Aberdeen and that they would be contacted to discuss the implications of the renewed lockdown.

The association has about 20 members who are taking similar measures.

The city's Kingsmills Hotel tweeted that sadly it was unable to welcome guests travelling from Aberdeen.

It said it would be in effect for seven days and would be reviewed.

"If you are from Aberdeen, with a reservation within the next seven days, please contact our reservations department to reschedule your visit," it said.

It has been announced there are now 54 cases in the "significant outbreak" in Aberdeen and that the cluster had involved community transmission.

Under the renewed lockdown restrictions, pubs and restaurants will have to close from 5pm today.

People are being told not to travel to Aberdeen, and those living in the city face travel restrictions.

They are being told not to travel more than five miles for leisure purposes. Travelling for work or education is permitted, but other travel is not advised.
