A HILLWALKER has been found dead in the Killilan area in Lochalsh.

The 56-year-old man was discovered yesterday morning by a HM Coastguard helicopter carrying out an aerial search of the area.

A search was launched on Thursday followingconcerns raised for the walker by local members of the public when he was not seen at his camper van having set off on a planned walk in the Killilan area.

The man was found dead having suffered injuries consistent with a fall. His next of kin are aware.

Personnel from the Kintail and RAF mountain rescue teams and the Search and Rescue Dogs Association were also involved in the operation.

Sergeant Andrew Shaw said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends at this time.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course, as is standard practice.
