NHS Highland area records no new positive tests for Covid-19 for third day running; comes as whole of Scotland registered just eight newly-confirmed coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

THE Highlands have now gone three days without confirming any fresh Covid-19 cases.

The overall tally for positive tests in the NHS Highland health board area remained unchanged on 375 for the third day running when the Scottish Government published its daily update this afternoon.

There were only eight positive tests across the whole of Scotland in the past 24 hours, although one further person with the virus sadly died – taking the national death toll among those who tested positive to 2486.

Last night there were 439 people in Scottish hospitals who were being treated for confirmed Covid-19 infections – down from 450 the previous day. In the Highlands the number of hospitalised cases remained at six.

Just five people in Scotland were being treated in intensive care for confirmed Covid-19, unchanged from yesterday. A further 12 people in ICUs were suspected of having the virus, down from 14 on Tuesday.

Across the north of Scotland only NHS Grampian recorded fresh positive tests for the virus in the past 24 hours. It saw its overall total rise from 1419 to 1421.

Orkney (nine), Shetland (54), Eileanan Siar (seven) and NHS Tayside (1769) all remained unchanged from yesterday.
