Neighbours of a Drumnadrochit man were verbally abused because he thought they had reported his dogs to the Scottish SPCA for excessive barking.

But when 40 year old Michael MacLeod (40), of St Drostans, shouted and swore at them twice in one day, the police were informed and he was charged with threatening or abusive behaviour.

He appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted the offence which occurred on August 28, 2022.

Fiscal depute Shay Treanor told Sheriff Sara Matheson that his neighbours had got out of their car about lunchtime and heard MacLeod shouting: "You grasses. I will ******* kill you. I will have you. You won't want to mess with me."

Mr Treanor added: "It was unclear to whom the comments were directed. Later that day they heard him again shouting about his dogs, then he turned his attention to the pair accusing them of contacting the Scottish SPCA."

Defence solicitor Maureen Duffy told the court: "He makes his apologies. He is deeply regretful. He had been drinking heavily at the time but has now stopped completely.

"The difficulties he had with his neighbours have been resolved as they have moved away. They were unhappy about his dogs barking but they are now under better control."

MacLeod was fined £290.
