NC500 Highland visit from Great Britain steam train on Kyle railway line

An NC500 railway route has seen a visit from an extraordinary steam train, The Great Britain XVI.

Yesterday (April 17), saw a visit from the spectacular steam-hauled Black 5 locomotive, The Great Britain XVI train.

Excitement has been building ahead of the steam train’s visit in Highland multiple villages along the Kyle railway line, through Dingwall, Garve, Plockton and Kyle of Lochalsh with views of Skye in sight.

Ross-shire Journal reader, Sam Bilner, was at the ready to capture stunning pictures of the train, and has kindly shared them with our readers.

Many locals pointed out what beautiful weather there was to complement the breath-taking views seen on the Kyle railway line. Residents from villages across Ross-shire have been carefully planning their timings for days, so they could catch a glimpse of the Great Britain XVI and it’s beautiful sound.

Tickets for the Kyle of Lochalsh journey on the luxury Great Britain XVI would have cost £199.

The steam train is now set to journey back to Edinburgh, before heading to Liverpool and traveling west to tour Wales, before its final destination of London Paddington on April 21.
