A Perthshire farm worker who was upset at the break-up of his relationship didn't realise he was travelling at 111mph on a section of A9 dual carriageway.

But Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald expressed doubt that 22-year-old Drew Billimore, of Little Inchgarth, Keltneyburn would not have realised how fast his Ford Fiesta was going.

She told him: "I suspect your little car was rattling."

Billimore admitted driving carelessly at excessive speed at Daviot on February 25.

Defence solicitor David Patterson told Inverness Sheriff Court: "He resides in Perthshire and his girlfriend was in Inverness.

"It ended that evening and he was overcome with emotion. He didn't realise what speed he was doing.

"There appears to have been a lesson learned here. He has no previous record and it is out of character."

Sheriff Macdonald fined Billimore £540 and banned him from driving for four months.
