A collection of three ruined and windswept stone cottages in Caithness, with views stretching over the moors and out to sea, are to go under the hammer with a guide price of £59,000.

The auctioneer's catalogue describes the property bundle as being "located three miles from the picturesque fishing village of Lybster – the three derelict buildings stand on a site of almost three acres and have lapsed planning consent for the cottages to be demolished and replaced with a new house, complete with water treatment plant and filtration system".

The properties are being auctioned by Pugh in the firm’s online property sale on September 20 and have been given a guide price of £59,000 for the entire site at Newlands which is close to Occumster.

Paul Parker, associate director at auction house Pugh, said: “This is an amazing opportunity to create a dream home, or holiday accommodation, off grid and in the most amazing, remote highland location in the very north of Scotland.

“The views over the open countryside and out across the North Sea really are stunning and Lybster, with its museum and historic harbour, as well as amenities such as shops, cafés and a primary school, is close by. Wick is also only 12 miles away and Thurso and John O’Groats less than 30 miles to the north.”

He added: “The whole Caithness region is seeing a real boom in tourism with the rise in popularity of staycations and is becoming a year-round destination for visitors as a result of its stunning scenery, watersports, wildlife-watching and trips to the nearby Orkney islands – it’s definitely a great place to be.”
