Highland overnight road temperature dips to minus 8.7C as council crews assess driving conditions

SUB-ZERO temperatures on Ross-shire road surfaced are being reported this morning by local authority operatives who are out and about.
Highland Council says overnight road temperatures in Skye and Raasay were the coldest so far this year, dropping to – 8.7C.
Highland Council's snapshot report for Wednesday includes the following:
Ross and Cromarty
Road surface temperatures remain negative although higher than yesterday. Light precipitation in the form of drizzle. All primary routes checked and treated no issues reported. Secondary and higher others have a grey frost. Treatment ongoing this morning. No reported overnight issues.

Wester Ross
Still very cold and dry. All routes are being checked this morning. There were no reported overnight issues.
Badenoch and Strathspey
All routes being treated this morning. Frost and ice patches across the network. No known overnight issues.
Nairn
Damp roads throughout the area with the odd frost patch. All routes being treated. No known overnight issues.
Skye and Raasay
Coldest overnight road temperatures this year with road surface temperatures dropping to minus 8.7C. Widespread hoar frost with some icy patches across the network.Treatments running by priority. No overnight issues to report.
Sutherland
Hoar frost with odd icy patches reported across the area. All routes currently being treated in order of priority. No known issues.
Lochaber
Treatment carried out as planned. Very low temperatures, some frosty roads with ice flows. No problems overnight.
Inverness
A cold morning and a light dusting of snow last night. Crews are covering all routes and footpaths. No known issues.
Caithness
Temperatures higher than forecast with a mix of dry and damp roads with high salt levels from previous applications. Some routes are affected by ice. Treating some routes as a precaution. No known overnight issues to report.
The information is a summary of reports from operational staff "and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time".
The council states: "It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.
