AN Inverness medic who has helped in recent aid efforts in Beirut and Estwatini was due to return to Afghanistan later this

year.

NHS Highland consultant Andy Kent also served in Afghanistan when he was in the military, and has been back to help with the

clear-up of land mines.

He said: “Contrary to what is portrayed on the TV, it is a stunning country with an amazing history and culture.

“The people I have encountered were always extremely friendly and welcoming – despite the hardships they have

endured.

"In many ways it reminds me of what the Highlands must have been like a few centuries ago.”

He continued: “I am devastated by what is evolving in Afghanistan.

"I fear there is worse to come.

“I served in Afghanistan and I have since returned in a humanitarian capacity, with the Halo Trust in 2019, to deliver trauma training to their minefield medics.

“Indeed, I had been scheduled to undertake a follow-up visit later this year."
