A MAN who owned a well-known garage in Inverness is saying a big thanks to all his loyal customers.

Peter Mackenzie opened Auto Services in Harbour Road in 1991, and was the go-to mechanic in the area for many across the Highlands.

He put down his wrench and spanner in August, and sold his garage to Craig Walker, who has renamed the business Top Car.

Mr Mackenzie said he is very grateful for all those who were with him over the years.

He said: “I just want to say a big thank you to all my loyal customers and colleagues.

“I loved being my own boss, and had some customers from day one of opening. They became friends more than customers.

“A big thank you to all the suppliers over the years too – they were a big part of what I did.”

Mr Mackenzie has been in the motor trade since he was 17, and completed two stints at different garages before opening his own premises.

He says he is now looking forward to spending more time with his wife Helen, and sons Mark and Neil.

“I am looking forward to enjoying life a bit more,” he said. “I will do some gardening, and we have a motorhome. We are going to explore Scotland and hopefully Europe at some point with it.

“I have a 1985 GTI Volkswagen Golf that I am finally going to work on. It was always a joke with customers as it always sat in the garage and I never had a chance to do anything with it – I do now.”

Mr Mackenzie wished Mr Walker and his team the best of luck with the garage, adding: “Craig will look after all those who were with me.”
