An hotel has closed after an employee tested positive for coronavirus.

The Chieftain Hotel in Inverness said it was a precautionary measure and a deep clean was in progress.

A spokesman said: "As a precautionary measure, we have take the difficult but correct decision to close The Chieftain Hotel.

"We were made aware today that a member of the back of house staff, who hasn’t been on shift since earlier in the week, has tested positive for Covid-19.

"The member immediately informed us and instantly self-isolated.

"We are currently carrying out a deep clean of the premises, have been in contact and working with the EHO [environmental health officer] and awaiting further instruction from the track [and trace] team.

"The safety of our staff and customers is our top priority at all times. We have been reading and working with the Highland Council's regulations and advice.

"In the meantime we are all grateful for your understanding and support."
