A HIGHLAND food bank has appealed to supporters to continue backing it "in very uncertain times" and suggested an alternative to physical donations of supermarket-bought goods.

Blythswood says the Highland Food Bank is currently "very busy", feeding an average of 30 people on a daily basis in the Inverness and Nairn areas alone.

It said: "We are living in very uncertain times just now, and for some it must be difficult not being able to physically meet together.

"We are keeping in line with our normal practice of receiving referrals from partnering agencies for people who are in financial crisis and have no food, nor money to buy any. Last week we helped a mum and child who have had to flee their home due to domestic violence.

"We’ve received a number of calls and emails asking what individuals, businesses and congregations can do to support the food bank at this time, when people aren’t able to donate their usual food items on a Sunday.

"With normal drop off points for food in communities not being available, people not wishing to visit the supermarket too frequently to purchase donations and the current unavailability of some products we are suggesting that if people would like to continue to donate to Highland Food Bank, they can do so financially, no matter how small the amount"
