An Inverness bakery worker who was called in to do emergency overtime from his Fortrose home ended up in police custody after his car broke down on the Kessock Bridge.
Officers saw 57-year-old Wayne Kelly's Saab parked in a lay-by near the Caledonian Stadium at 1.30am and decided to check it, Inverness Sheriff Court heard.
Fiscal depute Victoria Silver told Sheriff David Sutherland that officers detected a strong smell of cannabis in the car and Kelly, of Hill of Fortrose, produced a tub containing three grams of the drug.
Defence solicitor Willie Young explained: "He was dealing with a number of matters at the time and his car added to his list of woes.
"He was using cannabis to manage his stress and he took a small quantity of the drug as he tried to contact his wife by phone. He is now prescribed medication."
Kelly admitted being in charge of his vehicle with 3.8mcgs of the drug in his system when the legal limit is 2mcgs. He also pleaded guilty to possessing the drug.
He was fined £470 and had his driving licence endorsed with 10 penalty points.
