Three more Covid-19 cases confirmed in NHS Highland area; rise comes amid slight fall of coronavirus patients in the region's hospitals

THREE more Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in the Highlands overnight ­– taking the region's tally to 228 since the outbreak began

The figure came as Scottish cases climbed by another 197 to 10,521. A further 13 people confirmed as having Covid-19 have also sadly passed away, taking the number of patients who have died after testing positive to 1262.

There was also a rise in the number of people being treated in Scottish hospitals for confirmed or suspected coronavirus. At midnight some 1762 were receiving treatment, up from 1735 the previous day.

But there was better news in the Highlands, as the number of people being treated in the region's hospitals fell again slightly to 48 from the previous day's 50.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases confirmed in Eileanan Siar, Orkney or Shetland.

While NHS Grampian cases increased by 23 to 771. Its Covid-19 hospital patient numbers rose by two to 90.

There were also only 10 new diagnoses in NHS Tayside, which rose to 1261. It was treating 95 suspected or confirmed cases in its hospitals – an increase of four on Sunday's tally.
