Highland Council has launched a month-long consultation exercise over proposed rent increases.

The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 requires social landlords to consult tenants and take account of their views when making decisions about such rises.

Its tenant participation team is starting a month-long trip around the region's communities talking to tenants about what their rent money is spent on and consulting on the rent they will pay in 2020/2021.

The team will visit as many Highland areas as they can until November 30 and hope to talk to as many tenants as possible.

A timetable for when they will be in each area can be found on the council's web site at www.highland.gov.uk/rentconsultation and tenants are advised to drop in to give give their views.

A consultation paper has also been sent out to all council house tenants and they can also take part online at www.surveymonkey/r/rentc

John Finlayson, chairman of the council's Care, Learning and Housing Committee, said: "This consultation provides an excellent opportunity for tenants to have more of a say on how their rent is spent and managed, therefore it is important that as many people as possible take part and share their views with us."
