THE results of a Highland Council by-election will be anounced later today (Friday).
Five candidates are vying for the Aird and Loch Ness seat on the council and voting will be counted by single transferable vote.
The five hopefuls are - Dr Jean Davis (Lib Dem), Vikki Trelfer (Green), Emma Knox (SNP), Zofia Fraser (Ind) and George Cruickshank (Con).
The count is currently taking place in the Phipps Hall, Beauly.
The by-election was called after the former leader of Highland Council, Drew Hendry, stepped down from his role as councillor after being elected to the House of Commons.
Mr Hendry, MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey, announced his resignation as councillor for Aird and Loch Ness, in July.
He won the Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey seat at May’s Westminster elections, ousting former Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander who had held the seat for a decade.
Mr Hendry overturned the 8,765 Liberal Democrat majority with his own majority of more than 10,000.
The Aird and Loch Ness Highland Council ward is made up of four members. The others are - Helen Carmichael (Ind), Margaret Davidson (Ind) and Hamish Wood (Lib Dem).
The current political representation of Highland Council is: Highland Alliance (5); Independent (32); Labour (8); Liberal Democrat (11); Scottish National Party (20); Non-aligned (3).
