A new film showing how Inverness Castle will be transformed from past uses as a prison and courtroom into a visitor attraction will be screened next week.

Members of the public are invited to view the new Inverness Castle Experience film in 360, have a chat with the castle team and see the concept ideas for the new visitor attraction due to open in 2025.

It has been stated by backers that the multimillion-pound Spirit of the Highlands transformation of the landmark is intended to provide a boost enjoyed by the whole of the region.

High Life Highland is offering allocated time slots at the immersive unit at Castle Wynd. Bookable 30-minute slots are available from Monday May 15 to Wednesday May 17, 10am to noon, and on Thursday May 18, 2pm to 4pm, by emailing Info@invernesscastle.scot.

The stories inspiring the content for the attraction have been crowd-sourced from across the Highlands, capturing the spirit of the area’s past, present and future.

It is intended that this project will encourage visitors to explore and experience all parts of the Highlands and Islands, as well as inspiring them to attend and support festivals and events, visitor attractions and outdoor locations across the area.

Councillor Ian Brown, leader of Inverness City and Area and co-chairman of the Inverness Castle Project Delivery Group, said: "It is wonderful to finally be at the point of sharing the film and concept designs for the Inverness Castle Experience with the public.

"I am sure that everyone coming to view the immersive film will agree that this is a very exciting and much-needed attraction for Inverness and will be of significant benefit to the wider Highland area."

Runrig to feature in castle redevelopment

The Inverness Castle project, opening in 2025, will benefit from £30 million investment to support its re-development from the Scottish and UK Governments, Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and a range of other partners.

The Inverness Castle project is part of the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal, which is a joint initiative supported by up to £315m investment from the UK and Scottish governments, The Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and University of the Highlands and Islands, aimed at stimulating sustainable regional economic growth.’

The Spirit of the Highlands and Islands project is supported by a grant from the Natural and Cultural Heritage Fund (NCHF), led by NatureScot and funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
