MORE than 30 north companies have been announced as finalists for the second annual Highland Business Awards.

A range of small and large businesses are in contention for recognition at the event next month, where 13 awards will be presented.

Inverness-based Cairngorm Windows is the only defending champion which could retain its crown. The windows specialist has been shortlisted alongside Ashers and Ferguson Transport & Shipping in the Best Family Business category.

However, last year’s Inverness & Ross-shire Business of the Year winner Coast & Glen could be celebrating double glory this time around.

Magnus Houston, director at the Inverness-based seafood and game supplier, is up for the newly named Business Leader of the Year award, whilst the company has been shortlisted for the Outstanding Performing Business (less than 25 employees) accolade.

Other contenders for the Business Leader of the Year award – which replaces the Best Local Hero title – are Kenny Cameron, chairman at Scottish Premiership football side Inverness Caley Thistle, and David Hourston, managing director of Dalcross Holdings.

Craggan Outdoors and ServGroup are the other finalists in the Outstanding Performing Business (less than 25 employees) section.

Reids of Caithness is also shortlisted in two categories – namely Exporter of the Year and Caithness & Sutherland Business of the Year.

Awards will be presented to the Outstanding Performing Business (25+ employees), Most Promising New Business, and Best Social Enterprise.

Area business of the year titles covering Inverness & Ross-shire, Caithness & Sutherland, Lochaber, Cairngorm, and Moray, will also be presented.

Furthermore, an Overall Highland Business of the Year will be named.

The awards are being co-ordinated by Inverness Chamber of Commerce. The event – which is part of Highland Business Week running from 22nd to 26th September – will be staged at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness on 25th September.

Technip’s pipeline fabrication facility, located at Evanton Spoolbase, has been secured as principal sponsor of the Highland Business Awards.

Scottish Provincial Press is supporting Highland Business Week.
