A boy from the Highland capital has died after drowning in a swimming pool while on holiday in Cyprus, it has been reported.
The six-year-old boy from Inverness was on holiday with his family in the tourist resort Paphos, when he was found unconscious in the pool on Friday, October 6.
It is believed the boy received first aid treatment at the scene by an on-duty lifeguard before being rushed to Paphos General Hospital for treatment.
He was later taken to a specialist facility at Makario Children's Hospital in Nicosia.
The Daily Record say that Paphos CID is investigating the incident while police confirmed that the boy had died in a statement.
A spokesperson for Cyprus Police said: "On October 6, police were informed that a 6-year-old boy was found unconscious in a hotel's swimming pool in Paphos.
"The boy was hospitalized at Makarios Hospital in Nicosia where he passed away on October 14.
"The police are investigating the circumstances under which the child was found unconscious in the pool."
A UK Government's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British national who has died in Cyprus.”
