Strong westerly winds are playing havoc with CalMac ferry sailings all along the west coast.

The ferry giant intimated today (Wednesday December 20) that tomorrow Thursday 21st December, the 6am from Stornoway is cancelled.

And the following sailings are at high risk of disruption or cancellation at short notice - the Ullapool departures at 9.30am and 4.30pm, as well as the boat due to depart Stornoway at 1.00pm.

Further updates will be provided once available said CalMac.

A spokesperson added: "Cancelling a sailing is a decision we do not take lightly because we know it will inconvenience our customers and the communities we serve.

"However, the safety of our customers and crew must come first. In this instance, the Master of the vessel has judged it is necessary in response to the assessment of adverse weather conditions."

Strong westerly winds also disrupted the Ullapool to Lewis route today, Wednesday, December 20.

Due to the late arrival of the MV Loch Seaforth into Stornoway, the vessel departed Stornoway at 1330 (30 minutes late) and the estimated arrival into Ullapool was at 1610 hours.
