New Year's Day high wind weather warning for Highlands issued by Met Office

A HIGH wind weather warning has been issued for New Year's Day in the Highlands.

The possibility of disruption to transport and a potential impact on power supplies have been flagged.

The yellow warning of high wind has been issued by the Met Office and runs until 5pm today, as things stand.

The yellow weather warning is the least severe of three which include amber and red.

Today's warning states:

High winds today will likely cause some disruption with difficult travel conditions.

Some delays to road, air and ferry transport are likely.

Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely.

Some short term loss of power and other services is possible.

It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.
