THE high uptake of Covid vaccinations in the Highlands is helping change the course of the coronavirus pandemic.

That's the view of Dr Ross Jaffrey of the Safe Hands, Saves Lives group which has been keeping people across the region updated with daily bulletins featuring the latest statistics and medical advice.

He noted that one in five people in the country have been vaccinated with their first dose and that community collaborations are being forged across Scotland to deliver this programme.

The beauly practice he works in includes patients from neighbouring Muir of Ord and the surrounding area.

He said a drive-through vaccination programme had been successful with "up to 200 rolling through each day", something he described as a great team effort and "simple and effective".

He paid tribute to the help of the British Red Cross, NHS Highland, Beauly Shinty Club and Highland Council for permitting use of Braeview Park.

He posted: "The people of Beauly will get their car park back soon. Uptake has been so high, people will change the course of this pandemic by working together. It really is amazing to see. Our team have been greatly warmed by the lovely feedback – in spite of the cold."

He cautioned: "Remember age may not be the only reason people have been invited. Some in the higher priority cohorts may have missed their call/letter, or their letter may arrive after the appointment date. Efforts will be made to identify these people. In Highland this remains the remit of your practice so look at the websites. Try not to call as delivery remains dependent on supply."
