A FAMILY friendly kite fest is set to take place in a north Highland community on Friday – so long as the weather plays nice.

The free event will be staged at the Meadows in Dornoch on Friday, weather dependant, and is being organised by Mike and Tina Hook.

It has been scheduled to run from 1pm-3pm.

Michael and Tina Hook have been working with Dornoch and District Community Fellowship and the Free Church to run children's events in the town.

The Hooks have been working with Dornoch and District Community Fellowship and the Free Church to run children’s events in the town.

They were initially keen to run the kite fest at Dornoch airfield, located at the links, but there were concerns that it might interfere with any aircraft using the strip, so the venue was switched to the Meadows.

The couple say that should the weather be inclement – raining or with no wind – the kite fest will be put back.

Ms Hook said: "We will have kites for each family when they arrive. We are also hoping to have balloons to give away and maybe a craft table or two set up.

"The idea is to come, have a kite, do a craft and be given a balloon when you leave."

She added: "We will also have information on our kids club Enlightening Kidz for people to have, although as yet we don’t know when we are starting up again.

"This event is to let everyone have a fun family time before school starts again and to come together as a community which we feel is very important."
