THE operator of Inverness Airport has launched the latest version of its website.
It is a beta version – a development stage in the website process – which helps designers iron out any problems or bugs and also gives those using the site the chance to provide feedback before the final version is published.
Accessibility was at the forefront of the redesign which followed wide consultation with colleagues, passengers, public and targeted engagement with visitors to the website.
Technology, such as eye tracking software, was used to determine the information people accessed and where it should be located across the new site.
The new website has a clean uncluttered design, with improved functionality and search facilities, allowing visitors to easily move around the site as wel as offering quick access to information.
Darren MacLeod, head of ICT and digital transformation, said: “We are delighted to launch the beta version of the new HIAL website. It is the result of a lot of research, planning and hours of hard work to achieve the best possible experience for anyone visiting the HIAL site.
“Covid-19 has resulted in an unavoidable surge in the use of digital technology. Increased website traffic during this time highlighted the importance of creating a site where visitors can easily access the information and updates they need.
“Don’t worry if something appears to be missing or not working – during the beta stage we will be working hard in the background to fix any minor issues for the release of our final website.
“Please take the time to visit the site and give us your feedback. We will continue to develop our website and have ambitious plans for the future.”
The beta phase will run for six weeks and during that time developers will liaise closely with The Digital Accessibility Centre (DAC) to ensure the website is accessible to all and meets best practice accessibility standards and legislation.
The revamped website includes individual sites for HIAL’s 11 airports, which can be accessed through the main HIAL website or via their own unique website address (URL). These URLs will be activated during the Beta stage.
