A DEDICATED and hard working care worker has been praised after he won his second national award in three years.

Ovidiu Suciu, from Redwoods Care Home in Alness, was named Senior Care Worker of the Year at the Meallmore Staff Awards, which recognise outstanding efforts within Meallmore in Scotland.

His success comes just three years after he won the Staff Newcomer award in the same competition.

Residents and their relatives described Ovidiu as "a joy" and praised what they called his "exemplary commitment" to the care and well-being of residents and their families. He also holds information sessions for families and worked to foster strong links with the local community.

He said: "I’m absolutely speechless. I was so happy to have won the Staff Newcomer award in 2015 so I’m very humbled to have now won for a second time. It’s wonderful to be part of a company that give its employees so much support to grow."

The annual ceremony celebrates the positive impact staff make to people’s lives. Nominations come from residents, family and friends, visiting professionals and fellow staff members. Winners receive a certificate, trophy and an iPad for their hard work.

Gerry Hennessey, managing director of Meallmore Ltd, said: "I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Ovidiu for his well-deserved win and thank him for all his hard work over the last year.

"Our care home teams are instrumental in ensuring residents not only receive the best level of care and support, but enjoy a good quality of life.

"These awards are an extremely important way of recognising their efforts and hard work and I’d like to thank all our staff for their continued support."
