THE unique artwork of a lecturer in the Highland capital has been selected for a prestigious exhibition.

Innovative artist and University of the Highlands and Islands art lecturer Frank To, who works using ignited gunpowder, has been admitted into the prestigious Royal West of England Academy of Art Exhibition in Bristol, which will run until December 1.

Mr To was recently selected to showcase his work at the Royal Ulster Academy of Art Exhibition in Belfast and has been pre-selected for the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh.

Mr To said about his achievement: “I wanted to see how far I can push my limits in drawing with gunpowder. I am very surprised on the admiration and support on this new art technique.

“I am very honoured to be accepted in both the Royal West of England and Royal Ulster Academy as well as being pre-selected for the Royal Scottish Academy. I am very pleased to be given a rare opportunity to show in many of these royal institutes in this one year alone. It’s quite a rare thing, as few Scottish artists have ever achieved this in a short period of time.”

He recently announced his collaboration with IM Swedish Development Partner in creating artworks using Humanium powder, a metal made out of recycled material from gun destruction programmes in war zones.

He has exhibited alongside some of the greats of the international art scene, including Banksy and Antony Gormley.
