THE tape will go up tomorrow (Saturday) on a Wester Ross annual charity challenge which has raised millions of pounds over the years.

The Great Wilderness Challenge at Poolewe is celebrating its 30th anniversary event.

The challenge features walkers and runners undertaking spectacular routes in the magnificent mountain environs of the Fisherfield and Letterewe estates.

The routes cater for all levels of fitness and ability with an inclusive choice of 7, 13 and 25 mile routes.

Since the inaugural event in 1986 the Challenge has raised £3.275 million for local and Highland charities, with Highland Hospice being the chief recipient each year.

Participants return to Poolewe every year from all over Britain to take part in an event which is renowned for its camaraderie and community spirit, while raising significant sums for designated charities in the process.

Entrants have also come from Russia, the USA, New Zealand, France and Spain over the years.
