A Fortrose Medical Practice manager has retired after 19 years, and is looking forward to “completely de-stressing” and spending her “golden years” with her husband.

Gaby Ormerod (59), originally from Germany but now a Black Isle local, worked at Fortrose Medical Practice since June 2005.

This April, after many years of “hard work and dedication”, Gaby retired with hopes of travelling and spending time with her husband and in the garden for her “golden years”.

“I’m looking forward to completely de-stressing. I hope to spend the summer in the garden. I was given vouchers for the garden centre, so I’ve been digging holes and planting away.” said Gaby. “It’s been a bit like therapy!”

Gaby continued: “I will miss all of the brain challenges – it keeps you on your toes, and its good for your brain!

“As the practice manager you have to be the master of all trades. You’re dealing with everything from finances to human resources… It’s quite a varied position with quite a lot of responsibility, which I wont miss, but I will miss the brain challenges, and all the tea breaks – I’ve made a lot of friends at the practice.

“I won’t miss all the stressful times! Although we didn’t get many, complaints are never nice to deal with – but it is very satisfying to get a positive outcome from them by improving your protocols.

“I also won’t miss getting up at 6am every morning!”

Although she doesn’t have any set plans yet, Gaby is keen to visit family members located across the globe.

She said: “One of my sons lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia, so I would like to go and visit him. My brother lives in Paraguay so I’d like to see him too.

“My husband and I also like to visit Spain and the Canary Islands, although we also like to see new things and explore a bit more of the world.

“I’m also looking forward to spending time with my husband, and enjoy our golden years together alongside our dog and three cats.”

In a Facebook post announcing Gaby’s retirement, Fortrose Medical practice said: “Thank you Gaby for all your hard work and dedication to the practice. We will all miss you.”
