Glasses comments led to Inverness street assault
A pedestrian on his way to work was attacked by two men who had made abusive comments about the man's glasses.
Jason Macdonald (39) and James Marshall (32) crossed Lower Kessock Street in Inverness and after the man told them to leave him alone, the pair assaulted him.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that the man was thrown to the ground and Macdonald, of Glenshero Court, Laggan began punching and kicking him to the head and Marshall, of Balvaird Terrace, Muir of Ord, punched his victim on the head.
Fiscal depute Robert Weir said that two women in a car were passing at the time, and, "horrified by the onslaught, stopped to intervene".
"One of the women had her mobile phone in her hand which prompted Macdonald to shout: 'you f****** grass' and spat on her chest," he said.
Mr Weir continued: "The pair ran off. Macdonald was later traced and arrested. Enquiries later identified Marshall."
The woman was uninjured, and the man suffered bruising to his face but did not require hospital treatment, Mr Weir added.
The offence took place on the afternoon of December 19, 2020.
Macdonald admitted assault to injury and assaulting the woman by spitting while Marshall admitted the assault on the man.
Sentence was deferred on both until April 19 for background reports.
