Give him a chance to prove himself

THE fact that a "rookie" councillor was given the chairmanship of a key Highland Council committee raised a few eyebrows both inside and outside the debating chamber, as we reported this week.

As long as locally elected politicians remember who they represent and are grown up about reaching a consensus on big decisions, it’s hopefully not too much to ask that the newcomer, Graham Phillips, be given a chance to show his mettle?

If he can make some sort of progress on potholes for starters — and the best of luck with that! — he’ll have gone a long way to earning his stripes.
