SKILLS will be put to the test when the Plockton and District Horticultural, Arts and Crafts Society kick-starts the festive season with a gingerbread house competition.

The contest, which takes place at Plockton Village Hall on Saturday, is open to everyone, not just members, and all ages. Entries must be completely edible and will be judged in two categories – “Gingerbread House” and “Anything but a House”.

“Create a classic style gingerbread house or let your imagination run wild!” said a spokesperson. “We will be judging decoration only, so entries made with pre-baked gingerbread kits are welcome, provided the decoration is of your own creation.”

There will be prizes in both categories, as well as commendation awards.

Entries should be dropped off at the hall between noon and 1.30pm on Saturday. Doors will be open from 2pm to 4pm, with entries to be collected from 3.45pm. Masks should be worn on site. There will also be festive shopping.
