A big family day out aimed at giving everyone a break from cost-of-living crisis worries while also celebrating the Highlands looks set to bring thousands flocking to the city city centre.

A free-entry day of live entertainment, family games, sporting activities, charity challenges and games is being promised after High Life Highland and concert organiser LCC Live joined forces for a special Get Set for Summer event in the Northern Meeting Park next month.

The festivities will take place on Saturday, June 24 from 11am-5pm, and organisers are hoping the park will provide “the perfect location for locals and visitors alike to meet, eat, and play for the day”.

Steve Walsh, chief executive of High Life Highland (HLH), said: “Like many organisations, High Life Highland is very aware of the personal challenges that individuals and families across the Highlands are facing because of the current cost-of-living crisis.

“As a charity, we have been keen to do something to support people and bring them together to celebrate everything great and good about the Highlands.

“So, when the opportunity came up to partner the team at LCC Live by offering a free-to-access event in the city, we knew this was very much in line with our charitable objectives to support people across the Highlands.

Les Kidger, managing director of LCC Live, said: “We are extremely grateful for the support we receive from Highland residents who have attended the many concerts we have promoted in and around Inverness, and over the years we have supported a number of small groups and charities.

“But working in partnership with HLH means that Get Set For Summer is a much bigger way for us to be able to give even more back to our communities by being part of an affordable event that can bring families together on what we hope will be a warm, Inverness summer day.”

The teams at LCC Live and HLH are currently working to bring a number of other Highland charities, performers and businesses along on the day to showcase, promote and sell what is on offer across the region – and they are particularly keen to hear from any organisations that would like to promote their summer activities at Get Set For Summer.

Mr Kidger said: “We are currently in discussions with various providers to help us make this a really special day in the city, and for the people of the Highlands.

“Over the next few weeks, we will be announcing some of those attractions, charities and vendors on our dedicated Get Set For Summer Facebook page, so we’d encourage people to keep an eye on our social media to watch as the event develops and grows.”

Mr Walsh added: “The Northern Meeting Park has always been a great place to meet and to play in the city and it is fitting that Get Set for Summer will be one of the final major events to take place in the Northern Meeting Park prior to refurbishment works taking place at the historic city location.”

The refurbishment works at the Northern Meeting Park are part of three projects along the River Ness in Inverness designed to boost the city’s sporting and cultural attractions, preserve key heritage assets, help attract more tourists and assist in achieving net zero carbon targets and which are being supported with almost £20 million from the Levelling Up Fund.

Both HLH and LCC Live are pleased to welcome Highland News and Media – publisher of The Inverness Courier – as the media partner for Get Set For Summer.
