SEVERAL Ross-shire museums are set to benefit from the appointment of a new Gaelic development officer.

Anna MacQuarrie, who grew up in a Gaelic speaking household on the Black Isle, is currently based outside Edinburgh, where she has been working part time for Museums & Galleries Edinburgh and Creative Scotland.

Gairloch Museum is one of four Museums who will benefit from this two-year appointment. Applecross Heritage Centre, West Highland Museum and the Highland Museum of Childhood will also benefit from this Bòrd na Gàidhlig funded post.

Anna has extensive experience in a wide range of museum settings, including Museum nan Eilean, Fife Cultural Trust and the Society of Antiquaries Scotland. She is also founder of Ar Dualchas, a grassroots network that provides a voice for Gaelic speakers in the heritage industry.

Anna’s role will be to help these museums increase and promote the use of Gaelic language across their sites and throughout their outreach activities.
