A Gaelic choir conductor is mounting an online teaching session with some of Gaelic's most treasured tunes.

Joy Dunlop, who is also a BBC TV weather presenter, decided to go online after the announcement of the postponement of this year' Royal National Mod, which had been due to be held in Inverness

She said: "This year's Royal National Mòd in Inverness has been postponed until 2021, a sad but sensible idea given the current circumstances.

"Many of us Gaelic choristers are still virtually meeting on a regular basis for a sing and catch up and it was suggested at my last practice that it would be nice to learn and/or revisit some of the more common Gaelic choral repertoire.

"So, I'm going run bi-weekly virtual choral workshops over the next few months to work through songs from the infamous Purple (formerly Blue) Book. These workshops were initially only for my own choristers but I thought that I'd open this out to anyone else that might like to come along for a sing-along.

"The emphasis will be on enjoyable, social distance learning in a virtual environment – and you don't need to be a Gaelic speaker or have any previous Gaelic choral experience.

"We're going to trial this on Saturday, May 9 at noon, with a nominal fee of £3 per session to cover costs.

"Due to virtual limitations, spaces need to be booked in advance by emailing info@joydunlop.com, with full details being emailed to all who express an interest.

"No previous Gaelic or choral experience necessary – just your copy of the Gaelic choral bible."
