THE funeral of a Balloch man who died in a gyrocopter crash on the Black Isle will take place next week.

A private cremation service will be held next Thursday (December 3), but Paul Nichol's family have advised anyone who wishes to pay their respects that they can line up along the road as the funeral car passes the family home at 56 Braeside Park. The vehicle will drive past the house at 11am – and those who wish to turn out have been advised "no black, please dress happy – thank you".

Although the cremation service will be private, Mr Nichol's "love of life" will be celebrated later at a special Humanist Memorial Service in the William T Fraser and Son funeral home, in Culduthel Road, Inverness, at 2pm on Tuesday, December 8.

This will be held in accordance with government coronavirus guidelines, and it will be available to view live at www.williamtfraserandson.co.uk. Donations in aid of the NHS Grampian Endowment Fund can be made in Mr Nichol's memory via www.facebook.com/invernessfuneraldirectors and https://www.nhsgcharities.com/donate/.

Announcing the funeral details, Mr Nichol's heartbroken family again paid tribute to "an amazing" man.

They said: "He was an amazing, loving husband to me Hazel (Passmore) Nichol, a dearly loved brother of Martin, Chris and Sally, brother-in-law to Derek and Cheryl, a devoted nephew to Belinda and Margaret and deeply loved by many other family members.

"A civil engineer, he was a colleague and friend to many at RJ Macleod Contractors (recently retired) and a wonderful friend to so many more."

Meanwhile, investigators looking into the cause of 67-year-old Mr Nichol's gyrocopter crash are reported to have been carrying out drone flights in the Munlochy area today (Thursday).

Police Scotland drones have been brought in to help the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) as they seek to find out how the gyrocopter crashed into a field near Avoch at around 12.55pm on November 12.
